Christmas books for kids have a way of capturing the magic of the season, creating lasting memories and traditions for families. In our family, Christmas isn’t just about the presents under the tree—it’s about the memories we create together. One of our most cherished traditions is our collection of Christmas books. We have a huge bin in the attic, filled to the brim with stories that have become a part of our holiday season. Over the years, these books have brought joy, laughter, and sometimes a few tears as we gather together to read them each December.
Some of these Christmas books for kids have become staples in our home that we look forward to reading each year. The Polar Express always gets everyone into the holiday spirit, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas never fails to bring a smile. One of the newer additions, When Santa Was a Baby, is such a cute story and has quickly become a favorite. For me, Santa Mouse holds a special place in my heart. It was my favorite as a child, and now we read it every year.
In addition to our favorite holiday books, the Bible’s Nativity story holds a special place in our Christmas tradition. Each year, we read the story of Jesus’ birth, from the angels announcing the good news to the Wise Men following the star. These stories remind us of the true meaning of Christmas—faith, love, and the miracle of Christ’s birth. Whether read from a children’s Bible or a simple children’s book, it’s a tradition that helps us reflect on the deeper significance of the season.
Our boys especially loved The Gingerbread Pirates growing up. It’s an adorable story that we still read every year. My daughter always adored Eloise at Christmastime, and we still love watching the movie every holiday season.
Our favorite story of all, though, is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The timeless message of redemption is a precious story, and we look forward to seeing a play based on the book each year. It’s a tradition that reminds us of the importance of reflection during the holiday season. From tiny board books for little ones to classics like A Christmas Carol, each story holds a special place in our hearts. They’ve helped us pause and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, making this tradition one of the most meaningful parts of our celebration. If you haven’t already started a collection of Christmas books, it’s a great tradition to begin. It brings so much joy year after year.
